Sutton Valence Hockey Club
Sutton Valence Hockey Club was founded in 1953 and played on grass on the Village Sports Field before getting its own grass pitches at East Sutton and some use of Sutton Valence School’s grass pitch on Upper. As League hockey took over from friendlies and the School built an astroturf pitch, the Club made a new agreement with them to allow them use of this on Saturday mornings. This was further extended when a second astro was built at the Prep School, with the Club putting money ‘up-front’ to help prioritise this project with the capital off-set against hire charges. The Club has access to both astros on Saturday mornings for matches and at other times for senior and junior training.
Without a Clubhouse, the Club uses the facilities of "The Queens Head", where hot food, good beer and a superb view over the Weald (weather permitting) are appreciated by visiting teams and Club Members alike.
Although predominately a small village based Club, the advantage of these facilities has helped in making it very successful. The Club Men’s 1st Xl has won promotion for the second year running and in the 2013/14 season will be playing in South League Premier Division 1, their highest level ever. The Men’s 2nd Xl has also won promotion next season, to Kent & Sussex Regional 2 League, having scored a record 119 goals last season, more than any other team in the South of England Leagues. There are also 3 other Men's League teams and 1 Men's Vets team, and an extraordinarily active and successful Junior section. Whilst we currently have no women's League team we are in the process of re-establishing one by running Thursday evening training sessions.
The Club is keen to continue to build on its success and welcomes new members for either Men's, Women's or Junior hockey, running a Club Day early in September to promote interest. Any individual or parent wishing to know more should contact the Club Secretary, Tom Willson, by email. (firstname.lastname@example.org)
The site will aim to keep Members up to date with fixtures, results and social activities, as well as providing visitors with maps, directions and contact info.Match Reports are now out for 21 April 2014
