First teamers Ian Fraser and Rob Bray managed to raise a fantastic £1200 for the club from their marathon in September.  Ian had this to say after the event:

“The reality of the task ahead became apparent when my 1st XI team mate Rob Bray and I arrived at Margate seafront on a windy morning of Sunday 4th September at 8am.

Having trained for 2 months confidence was debateable. Believing all marathons would be run on a flat course in tame conditions was one of our biggest mistakes. Setting off on the course at 9.30am we headed along the coast and took on the daunting hills they were a feature of the first 13 miles. At the half way stage we ran past the eventual finish post as we headed in the other direction down the opposing coast line. Although flatter we faced a new challenge on the second half of the run which was the overpowering smell of seaweed that haunted us all the way along the promenade from mile 14 to 20. Despite feeling our bodies had little left we trudged on from mile 20 to 26 reaching the final climb at mile 25 and sensing the finish we got through on adrenaline. Crossing the finish line after just over 4 and half hours of running we were greeted with driving rain which completed a full set of whether conditions we had experienced during our time on the roads.

Rob and I would like to take the opportunity to thank all those people that supported us and sponsored us and hope everyone in the club gets to benefit from the fund.”

Great work chaps!  Many thanks also to Lyndon for his efforts in persuading so many people to pledge their financial support.  There are some pledges still outstanding, so if yours is one of those please contact Lyndon to arrange payment.
