'Constant pressure breaks BBHC'
Sutton Valence started the second half of the campaign looking to ensure at least a play off place at the end of the season. In the initial seconds of the match BBHC caused chaos in the Valence D with a high flying aerial that almost found its way in. Valence soon settled and found that BBHC were happy to give them plenty of space in the midfield, Clint Smith took full advantage of this with cool passing between him and Chris Back.
Stevo Waldrom create the first clear chance from a break, sharp goalkeeping from BBHC prevented any score. The left flank saw Rob Bray creating havoc, with BBHC pressured to commit fouls in order to stop him. The later stages of the match saw BBHC pay for some early Green cards then would eventually become Yellow. It was a surprise when BBHC scored a breakaway goal, but the Valence plan never changed and by half time, Stevo Waldrom had levelled with a fine short corner strike.
The second half was clearly more Valence and with around 10 minutes to play Brett Angel scored the decider. BBHC had chances mainly from short corners, but good defending kept them out.

SV made the long journey to Brighton for a late game. Valence started very poorly in the first half and were outplayed by an excellent Brighton XI. As a result SV turned around 3 - 0 down. After half time a more concerted effort by the whole team led to a more competitve game. Sutton pulled a goal back early through the predatory skills of Ben Tragett.
Brighton immediately restored their 3 goal lead with a penalty corner goal. Sutton survived a good deal of pressure and towards the end of the game scored with a penalty corner routine of their own. Andy Lee adding the final touch to a well worked move. Sutton must improve on this performance if they are to ensure avoid relegation this year.

Sutton Valence travelled to fourth placed New Beccs with some new faces in the side and a run of poor performances in the league. Sutton Valence started the game well and took an early lead with a very well taken goal from Andy Lynn. However, they immediately let new Beccs back into the game. Till Pellny performed well in mid field in what is one of his last games for the Club. Each side had a number of opportunities in the first half with New Beccs unlucky to go into the second half a goal down - only excellent keeping by Rob Sharp kept them out.
Tighter marking in the second half meant Sutton were able to regain possession and make more attacks. This resulted in two goals - a beautifully struck short corner from David Paine, and a second Goal from Andy Lynn. With one minute to go, Beccs deservedly scored from a short corner to make it 3 - 1 to Sutton.
There were a number of contenders for man of the Match - Andy Lynn, Rob Sharp, but a fine defensive performance from Ed Goacher got the the players vote.

Valence started the second half of the season with a convincing display of skill and speed. From the off they took control making use of the wings and midfield to pressurise New Beccs. Ben Palmer opened the scoring with a scrambled short corner to be quickly followed by Tony Auger scoring another Hat Trick and for good measure adding a forth before the half was out.
New Beck's gathered themselves after the half and cut out Valence's break away attacks with some good defending at the back. Unfortunately the game was delayed for 10 minutes due to an unavoidable collision which saw one of the New Beck's leave the pitch. From the restart Valence showed their class with two goals from captain Chad Henderson and goal No. 8 from Richard Dickenson. A team performance resulted in a well deserved win and special mention goes to Ben Palmer for a great game in mid field.

The fledgling fifth team recovered from the 7-1 mauling last week to play out a very creditable nil-nil draw with the Holcolme 6A's. Holcolme started the match well and attacked hard for the first twenty minutes, winning a handful of short corners. The defence and midfield held firm and pressured the player on the ball. This ensured that the strikers rarely had a shot and that the shots that were unleashed were generally wide of goal, intercepted or easily saved by the keeper.
The Sutton Valence team started to find a rhythm and the game became more balanced. The team held their positions well, which helped the newcomers and contributed to the overall confidence. Matt Willson and James Abrahams worked hard in midfield throughout the match. As the game drew towards its' conclusion the ball sped from end to end but both defences held firm and few shots at goal were made.
Doug Moir was deservedly voted man of the match. Playing his first game for an adult team, he exhibited great positional and stick skills, chased hard and was never afraid to commit to a tackle.

Sutton Valence ladies began the second half of the season on fantastic form with a convincing 8 - 1 win over Edenbridge
After a tentative start due to lack of practice over Christmas, Valence's true form shone through. This was demonstrated by some smooth linking play between the midfields and the forwards which resulted in several well earned short corners. It was Emma Donkersley and Georgie Pares that consistently struck the ball so well to the post, and these strikes allowed Sarah Lacey to convert 3 opportunities into goals in quick succession. Holly Stamp also got her name on the score sheet by battling her way to the end of two more strikes from short corners; one of which was a rebound. Somewhere during this goal scoring frenzy Edenbridge did take advantage of Valence's complacency by slotting a goal in when Valence looked half asleep.
However the second half showed renewed enthusiasm from Valence and with some very solid defending lead by Carol Hazelton at the back, Valence remained on top of Edenbridge. This dominance was complimented with several strong attacks and two more goals from Anna Kish and Penny Tragett. Emma Donkersley also managed an accurate strike from the top of the circle, which the Edenbridge goalkeeper just couldn't quite manage to reach.
Although Valence won convincingly, the score does not truly reflect the reign of play and Sutton Valence defence should be commended for their consistent dominance over the Edenbridge attack. This strength coupled with the strong linking play of the midfields and the ever increasing goal hunger of the forwards means that Valence ladies have high hopes for their progression as a team over the rest of the season.

This was Sutton Russets first league match since Christmas and ended up being a superb win to begin the new year. The first goal was scored by Penny Tragett early on in the game. She just managed to squeeze the ball across the goal line by inches.
The Crackenford keeper was kept on her toes throughout the game as numerous hits on goal failed to be converted on the many short corners that we were awarded. Carol Turner and Claire Matthews made some decisive and strong tackles which ensured Crackenford were kept at bay with very little room for manoeuvre in our goal half.
Exceptional passing between the midfielders filtering the ball up to the forwards lead to a further goal from Penny, two goals being scored by Mel Russell-Vick and Man of the Match Margaret Turner's fantastic hat-trick. Margaret had an excellent game out on left wing with perfect positioning in the D to slot in her three goals.
This set the trend for a fine win and a result the team can be proud of.

Having been on the verge of travelling to HSBC with only nine players and no regular keeper due to last minute illness, Sutton Valence were lucky to pick up three more from an earlier game at their meeting point, the Queen's Head. This included two Sutton Valence 5th team members and a New Beccs keeper, for whom the HSBC ground was also a home pitch. This proved to be a good move as all three contributed positively to the game.
In the first half the game seemed to swing one way and then the other, with Valence having the initial strong period, then HSBC providing all the pressure for about ten minutes and then back to Valence with Richard Evans, Charles Worsfold and particularly Danny Grace all going close. The pressure finally provided the first Valence goal when Paul Linaker diverted a pass from midfield past the on-coming HSBC keeper to Charles Worsfold in front of an open goal.
The second half wasn't all Valence, but blanking out of HSBC's normally effective right winger by Peter Jackson and sterling work from the other members of the half-back line - Steve Mole, Stuart Bates and Nick Willson - all of whom were happy to get up into the home side's dee to have a crack, gave Valence the edge. After further near misses Richard Evans' constant running at the defence paid off with an excellent strike, to be followed shortly afterwards by a clinical short-corner conversion from Stuart Bates. Charles Worsfold, on the left post, narrowly missed connecting with a chip from Richard Evans and Nick Willson ran out of space after a scintillating romp through the defence, but made up minutes later picking up a static ball in the dee and clipping it past the stranded keeper.
The good work done by the Sutton Valence defence of Bob Sagrott and David Barton plus loaned keeper meant that they had less to do in the second as HSBC ran out of ideas. Man of the Match: Peter Jackson got the vote for his constant running and effective pressure on the HSBC right-side attack.
