A very strong performance after two tough matches against Worthing and Lewes. A more attacking line-up took to the pitch with Coach heading up front and Stewie moving into midfield and doing more than a fair impression of Jan Molby.

All game we controlled and moved the ball well finally getting back to moving it through our pivots with speed and accuracy. The opening goal came from a bullet drag flick from Tim and we should have gone into half time more than 1 up after creating many chances.

In the 2nd half patient play around the back drew in the opposition and we then released to attack with pace and precision. Our reward was 3 further goals scored by Tim with three murderous drag flicks (1 breaking through the goal net) !

As they have all season, the defence looked strong and organised and although Blackheath started competing well in midfield they never made the real break through.

Up to 21 points and Marden up next where we will not be short of motivation........

    Team
12 overall and remarkably we kept all 11 on the pitch at all times.....

The home team started of brightly and attacked with pace but their advances were halted by Sutton Valences impregnable defence. Lewis Mitchel, Steve Parker and Matt Oakley again playing well. Brett, Fred, Andy and the two Toms then began to take control of the midfield and from that moment there was no looking back. Tom Willson struck first after some excellent individual skill and fast interplay with his team mates. The second goal came from an illegal tackle that prevented a certain goal and the umpire had no choice but to award Sutton Valence a penalty stroke. Tom Morgan then stepped up and put it away with a powerful flick. Sutton Valence maintained pressure right until the half time whistle

Andy Lee was as loquacious as ever throughout the match and imparted with his team mates at half time a speech of such vigor that the only response could have been positive.

The second half started as the first had finished with constant Sutton Valence pressure with only a few opposition skirmishes. Tom Morgan showed as the second half progressed that the physical side of his game can be equally as effective as his technical side. Andy Devlin who had been restricted up front by good Old Wills defending finally had his chance and put it away with aplomb. This was the final blow for Old Wills who only had their pride left to play for. In the final minutes of the game Old Wills managed to apply enough pressure to gain a short corner from a strong challenge from Tom Morgan. This was there only real chance for goal but it was not to be as Lee Croucher performed a balletic save to deny their forward and maintain Sutton Valences run of clean sheets.

Valence continued there winning ways with a comfortable victory against Folkstone. The game started at pace with Valance looking to take and early lead. The scoring opened with Bert Bowens skilfully directing the ball in at the back post. Valence continued to apply pressure and were rewarded with a short corner that was driven into the back board by Rick Archer from the top of the D. as the first half came to a close captain Chad Henderson increased his seasons tally to 11 when the ball rebounded to his feet for a simple shot in to the goal.

Valence were guilty of sitting back after the break and Folkstone scored 2 goals to put them back in to contention. After continued attacks Valence regained control and scored from 2 well worked short corner routines, Rick Archer changing his targeting from on goal to going wide for Mark leader to deflect in both at eh near post. After cancelling out Folkstone's to recovered goals Valence had several chances with Rick narrowly missing a great short from the top of the D. The scoring was finished off with a net ripping shot from Gavin Mel which had everyone ducking for cover as it whistled past several players including the keeper to make it a convincing 6-2 win

This match was a tale of two halves.

Despite an early yellow card for each team (1st of Phil's), Valence dominated the play and deserving were 5-0 up at half time, through excellant play from the whole midfield and forward line, but in particular Justin and Simon.

Second half started much scrappier, and although BBHC were never going to trouble us, we really struggled to get our play going. This wasn't helped by a further 3 yellow cards for us (Craig, Richard & 2nd for Phil) and 2 yellow & 1 red card for the opposition.

Despite a poor second half for a number of reasons, we were very pleased to run out 6-0 winners

    Report

Both teams arrived short of players resulting in the Sutton Valence 5th Xl very generously loaning players who had been in their preceding game, one for Chelmsford and two for Sutton Valence. The latter also had a guest player in the form of David Hayter of Blackheath. Iain Simmons, who had also just played, kindly acted as SV's umpire.

Chelmsford's early game was the brighter of the two, stringing their passes together more accurately and always seeming to have someone in space to receive and then move the ball forward or on. This put some pressure on Valence's defence, lacking their normal Captain, Gray Smith-Laing, but they tackled intelligently and managed to cut out many of the attempts. Of those that got through there were one or two near misses and finally an pass across the dee found their centre forward clear with time to make an easy conversion.

Valence did manage some attacking movements of their own, but they tended to break down either before reaching the dee or in the dee before any serious shot could be made on goal.

In the second half ,with Chelmsford losing their loaned player, the game appeared more even, with both sides having positive chances. Valence again failed three times to convert from short corners. This is clearly an area to improve. There were some more near misses from Chelmsford and also other real chances for Sutton Valence that went begging, with Charles Worsfold unusually not getting his stick on balls at the lefthand post.

Finally, Chelmsford confirmed their superiority on the day by an almost identical second goal to their first to take all the points.
