    Report

This was both a good and enjoyable match despite the blown drizzle and our turning up short again, and the play was much closer than the score suggests, due to a couple of very near misses that would have evened up the score.

Both the loaned players contributed well and the younger Willson played almost as well as his Dad - well one has to make allowances for the unfamiliarity with the green stuff!

The rest of the team played well too, and it was unfortunate that at least one of Purley's goals resulted from an untypical mis-kick from keeper Dave Britton. Hamish Dow made several ball cut-outs with extended stick which were key to breaking down Purley's advance.

In the second half, when only one down, Valence got more into the game and had their near misses before Stuart Bates managed to thread one through a Purley defence that had the keeper unsighted. Several short corners were won, but again went unconverted.

After the recent weeks without games this was a good run-out and it will not be long before the Vets are back for the Purley Mini Festival, just after Easter.

Next week Sutton Valence Vets play their last of three games against Canterbury Friars. Having already lost the previous two Sutton Valence will, with a full team for once, hope to put on a better show.
