A time to stop the poor run we've been having and we did so with a gutsy performance. We would not of won many plaudits for our playing style but we never gave up even when down to 10 men.

BBHC have the best defensive record in the league and they were difficult to breakdown. However this game was an even contest with our defence equally strong game. Both sides created early chances with the best falling to Jedi who, for once, did not have his reverse stick radar switched on. We were made to pay for this with BBHC taking a lead towards the end of the half with a well worked goal.

However at half time the body language and mentality was strong and we attacked from the outset. We pushed up the pitch and although BBHC played effectively up to the final third, their final ball was pressurised and therefore often poor.

We began to hold up the ball better up front and created corners which disappointingly we did not convert. However we would not be denied and a long ball reached Tom Edwards up front who used his pace to slice across the sweeper and strike the ball clinically into the far corner - a fine goal.

We pushed for the winner but a draw was a fair result. We will move on again from here with a full squad available to face Crawley next week and some tough selection decisions to make.

Peter Posnette's late equaliser against Ashford 3's ensured that Sutton Valence 2's remained unbeaten in the league so far this season. Sutton Valence took the lead through Tom Morgan who arrowed his shot from the top of the goal leaving the goalkeeper routed to the spot. Valence dominated the first half, and should have doubled their lead after good counter attacking hockey led to a Penalty Flick being awarded. Chris Johnson stepped up to the spot, but the Ashford keeper was able to save the flick despite the hysterics that he found himself in as a result of the poor effort. Further chances went adrift for Valence, and wish Ashford gradually finding their form in the game, the half-time score was 1-1.

The start of the second half saw the visitors dominate in all areas of the pitch for 20 minutes, and unlike Valence in the first half, were able to take their chances to establish a 3-1 lead. The last 10 minutes of the game saw Valence come roaring back. The hosts were in complete control and it was not long before Lewis Mitchell pulled the score back to 2-3. Further pressure took it's toll on the visitors when, following a short corner, Peter Posnette was able to lash the ball home for a well earned point. 3-3 the final score and a fair result.

Valence put out a strong side against league leaders Anchorians hoping to close the gap at the top of the table. From the start Valence showed their intent and took control of the game from midfield. Early shots came from Rick Archer and Chad Henderson as the pressure mounted. Half way through the first half the opening goal came when skipper Chad latched on to a ball and smashed it home. Valence's sturdy defence showed why they are the tightest in the league and easily kept out the oposition's efforts. The second goal came when Bob Bartlett launched an areal down-field, which Chad stole from the last defender and ran in towards goal. The resulting reverse stick shot from the far left of the D beat the keeper at the back post to make it 2-0. Valence continued to attack and before the break, Rick Archer got a well deserved goal scoring from close range to make it 3-0.

The second half saw Valence go for the kill and look to complete a comprehensive win. The defence held strong - intercepting and distrubiting well to enable the midfield to mount another attack. Anchorians were on the back foot and the midfield stepped up to increase the attacking numbers. Chris Thomas scored with a well executed shot that demonstrated his skill, which is promising for the games to come. Chad completed his hat-trick, collecting the ball at the top of the D to shoot another through the Anchorian keeper. Bob Bartlet completed the rout with a stinging shot on the run into the top of the D and Valence collected all three points.

On a bright sunny morning, a pleasant change from the rain of the last few days, the vets played a competitive and enjoyable game against a much younger team from Cobdown.

Unusually, the vets were able to field a full team for most of the game, although they were fortunate to be able to borrow Rob Sharp to fill the all important goalkeeper slot. At times, the team played some good constructive hockey, but the attacks mostly broke down before the opposition goal was threatened. Meanwhile, Cobdown played some incisive hockey and frequently entered the Valence circle, but Sutton's defence held solid with the help of some excellent keeping from Sharp.

For the last quarter of the game, down to 10 men, with one player injured and another having to leave early, Valence continued to hold out for a 0-0 draw. It looked as if this was to be the final score, but, in the dying minutes of the game, an umpiring decision to award a penalty flick to Cobdown decided the outcome. The flick was efficiently converted, leaving the final score as a disappointing 0-1, but one that fairly reflected the run of play.

    Report

This week's game against Kings Allen was a tough contest from start to finish. SV won a series of penalty corners in the first half which allowed Georgie Pares to open up the scoring for SV. However, it was not long until King's Allen got their act together and were simply too fast for our midfield and defence. King's Allen scored several goals from open play and a few from penalty corners.

Debutant keeper Lisa Devlin did extremely well making some strong saves to keep us in the game, while Zoe Wright worked tirelessly in defence to clear the ball out of our defending quarter.

The second half continued in much the same vain, with Alex Auger scoring from a Sarah Lacey cross. Geogie Pares scored another goal from open play, but unfortunately this was not enough to counteract the King's Allen bombardment.

Although a very enjoyable game, Valence were too sloppy and not fast enough on the ball. King's Allen played with military precision which allowed them to take the victory by a four goal difference.
