A frustrating result which reflected a below par performance. The day got off to a bad start when most parties were late for the meet, followed by a complacent attitude due to recent good form. Blackheath are always a competitive team who desperately needed to pick up points. An even first half that was end to end with ball retention being poor from both sides. SV made the break through with a short corner routine breakdown that resulted in Old Man coach playing a ball in from wide which was deflected in by Ian "Not The Face" Fraser who managed to score with his eyes shut.

The team talk focused on ball retention but clearly there was a language barrier as we played even more poorly in the 2nd half. Undeservedly we went 2-0 up with an identical goal being tapped in by Mike Gillette and this should have signalled game over. However in the last 10 minutes it was all Blackheath as they mounted wave after wave of attack due to us consistently giving the ball away and they clawed a goal back. With the last seconds of the game ticking away Blackheath won a dubious corner (stick block does not do it justice and Blackheath even agreed on this). Due to the final whistle being blown, all of the Blackheath players came up for the corner and to sum up the day a goal was scored with a very unlucky stick deflection from our No.1 runner ensuring the ball looped over keeper Will Fuller.

Still unbeaten, a point away from home but it still felt like a loss.

    Report

A win for Sutton Valence against their Medway rivals was made all the more impressive by the team's hardworking performance. Getting the team of the mark with a resounding Dave Moran short corner strike, the score was 1-0 to the home side at half time. Worries that earlier unconverted chances would lead to a nervous second half were quashed with a well taken solo effort from Willson. Indeed, were it not for the woodwork on two occasion through strikes from Johnson and Willson, and a glaring miss in front of goal from the latter, this result would have been all the more comfortable. Old Willies will take some solace from a consolation penalty strike converted with the score at 2-0, but with Bartlett's clinical penalty stroke, the result was never in doubt.

At times spraying the ball around with control, pace and awareness, this performance bodes well for the remainder of the season; however, against stiffer opposition, greater spoils must be taken from short corners if this team is to remain at the top of the table.

    Report

This week’s game against Deal was closely fought with Valence taking the upper hand during the first half. Some strong passing amongst the midfield set up the opening goal scored by Nicki Leggat. SV continued to be awarded with penalty corners but simply were unable to capitalize. Just before half time Anna Kish scored our second goal from open play.

During the second half however, Valence began to tire as our defence line became bombarded by the Deal attack. Although Deal got two goals passed us, Alex Auger played exceptionally well in goal to keep the result to a well respected draw.
