Report
After last week’s hard fought win, Sutton Valence were up for the local derby with Maidstone.
Valence started strongly and controlled the first fifteen minutes, but it was Maidstone who took the lead with a trade mark short corner routine. Buoyed by this Maidstone started to press, but with strong defensive work and a goal line clearance from Mo, Valence equalised with some quick passing and good movement, finishing with Marcus, aka dg, tapping in from six inches!
Valence started to push, but after some lucky touches and an unfortunate rebound, Maidstone capitalised and at half time it was 2 : 1 to the visitors.
After the “we play better when we're behind” team talk, Valence went looking for the equaliser, but an aerial ball from Maidstone left their striker teeing it up with a one-on-one with Al Burt, the Valence keeper. With a cracking shot, and the striker peeling away to celebrate the third goal, Al Burt, at full stretch pulled out a top corner stunner.
With Maidstone stunned, Willson popped up at the back post and picked out the cross to rifle it past the Maidstone keeper. At 2 : 2 Valence could feel revenge coming and pressed hard and once again dg popped up to finish from another well worked move; 3 : 2 revenge achieved.
A very satisfying win from a great team effort!
