View From The Chair - No 1
The intention of this column is once a month to take an item of current interest, and to comment on it from my own point of view. This view will not necessarily always be that of the Committee as a whole….but it better be most of the time!
The subject this month is the Club Website. One of the problems of the last few seasons has been the lack of a consistently working and up-to-date website, and this was identified again at the AGM as something that had to be corrected, even if it meant starting from scratch elsewhere. As the Club doesn’t have the conventional Clubhouse and notice-board, the Website is an even more essential communication tool for us than for many other Clubs.
In the event, after discussions between knowledgeable members of the Committee and Rob Sharp and Gareth Davies it was agreed that, with a little more work, the existing site could be made to do what was needed by the Club after all. The final addition that has made the whole thing gel is the agreement of Kevin Kirkham to act as Webmaster. He will be the ‘fixer’ in terms of giving help to anyone wanting to get legitimate material onto the site – even team match reports if the writer is having problems entering them.
The final ‘need’ is news from all quarters of the Club to keep members abreast of what is going on. And that is where all of you can help. The worst websites are those that don’t change – the same old messages about long-gone events, or out of date match reports or records, and a lack of messages about exciting things that are about to happen. So let’s know about them.
Over the next week or two you should see information appearing about the Club Day on Sept 3rd; about Coaching; about training; about the playing programme for the Leagues and about the intended Social Programme. Let’s all help to keep the site up to date and vibrant!
